Double typhoons bring heavy rains to hit Guangdong this week

Two typhoons, Cempaka and In-fa, are forecast to bring torrential rain and strong wind to Guangdong this week, according to Guangdong Meteorological Service.

Typhoon Cempaka developed from a tropical depression on the South China Sea. At 10 a.m. this morning, the typhoon was estimated to be about 160km southeast of Guangdong’s Yangjiang city. Moving at 18 m/s, it will gradually intensify and make landfall on the coast between Zhuhai and Maoming on July 20.

Another is the 8-scale typhoon In-fa formed in the eastern ocean off the Philippines. This ever-increasing typhoon may grow into 13 to 15-scale, moving at 40 to 48 m/s. It is predicted to land on Taiwan or Fujian and bring convective weather to east Guangdong.

Torrential rain and storm winds will befall coastal Guangdong in the next few days. The province has issued 43 warning signals for typhoons as of 14:09 p.m. of July 19.
