The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2021 for the third year was released on 21 April 2021, and 1240 universities from 98 countries and regions participated in the ranking. The impact rankings measure a university’s performance in achieving the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include targets such as quality education, sustainable cities and communities, climate action,industry innovation and infrastructure, partnerships for the goals.

GDUT’s overall impact ranks 401-600 in the world. Among 17 goals, the university's target of industry innovation and infrastructure ranks 72 in the world and fifth in Mainland China. The target of climate action ranks 100-200 in the world and second in Mainland China.
