I. GDUT Overview

i. General Information

Guangdong University of Technology (hereinafter as "GDUT") is a high-level and cutting-edge multidisciplinary provincial university with engineering as its core,where engineering,science,economics,management,literature,law and art are well in coordinated development. Dating back to 1958 when the University set up undergraduate courses, the University had its present form by merging Guangdong Institute of Technology with Guangdong Institute of Machinery and South China Institute of Architecture (East Campus) in 1995.

With headquarter located in Guangzhou, the University has 6 campuses,namely HEMC Campus,Dongfeng Campus,Longdong Campus,Panyu Campus,Shahe Campus and Jieyang Campus across Guangzhou and Jieyang.The University has 25 schools, 2 public teaching centers, 2 institutes and 6 centers for post-doctoral studies. Its six disciplines, namely Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science & Ecotechnology,Agronomy rank the top 1% of Essential Science Indicators (ESI) in the world.More than 4000 faculty members in the University support a full-time student population of over 50,000, including more than 39,000 undergraduate students and 12,000 graduate students.

II . Eligibility

i. For Undergraduate Programs

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese with a valid foreign passport, healthy and well-behaved, with an educational background equivalent to that of the Chinese high school diploma, without any criminal records. Applicants should abide by the laws and decrees of the Chinese government and related rules of university, honor the Chinese social morality and customs, and will not participate in any activities in China which are inappropriate to the capacity as a student.

2. Applicants should submit the following as required.

(1) Valid ordinary foreign passport

(2) High school graduation certificate

Applicants in their last year of high school should submit a pre-graduation certificate provided by their schools and resubmit their high school graduation certificate when they receive one. Failing to submit a high school graduation certificate before coming to GDUT will have their admission qualifications canceled.

(3) Complete transcripts of High School (original /notarized copy in English or Chinese).

(4) Applicants who have studied in China should provide the Discipline Record from previous school or university.

(5) Physical examination results.The results should be stamped by the hospital and issued within six months prior to the date of submission.

(6) Other supporting documents as required.

3. Applicants should be 18 or above by 31 August 2024. The applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China (see Appendix 1 for template).

4. Chinese Language Requirements

(1) HSK (Level IV) certificate (with 180 points or above) is required for applicants who would like to study in the programs of science and engineering. HSK (Level V) certificate (with 180 points or above) is required for applicants who would like to study in the programs of liberal arts, economic and management. The certificate must be in valid period.

Applicants who have completed their last degree with Chinese as the language of instruction can submit proof issued by their former school for GDUT's verification. After verification, the applicants can be exempted from providing HSK certificates.

(2) For applicants who haven't reached the required Chinese language level, they can apply to study Chinese language in International Exchange College (hereinafter as "IEC"). After obtaining HSK (Level IV) certificate, they can apply for the degree study.

5. English Language Requirements

For non-native English speakers who apply for English-taught programs, they should provide a score report of English Proficiency Test (TOEFL 80+/IELTS 5.5+). The certificate must be in valid period. For applicants who cannot offer the above-mentioned standardized English test reports, they will be required to participate in an English test organized by IEC.

6. Study Requirements for Ethnic Chinese

If the applicant’s parents or one of the parents are Chinese or the applicant has emigrated from Chinese mainland, Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan and acquired foreign nationality for, according to the Document No. 12 〔2020〕 of the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (see Appendix 2), they must be naturalized for 4 years or more and have more than 2 years of residence in foreign countries during the past 4 years (Actual residence in a foreign country for nine months out of a year may be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).

ii. For Graduate Programs

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese with a valid foreign passport, healthy and well-behaved, without any criminal records. Applicants for Master’s degree programs should have an Undergraduate study background equivalent to that of the Chinese Bachelor’s degree. Applicants for Doctoral programs should have a Master study background equivalent to that of the Chinese Master’s degree.

Applicants should abide by the laws and decrees of the Chinese government and related rules of university, honor the Chinese social morality and customs, and will not participate in any activities in China which are inappropriate to the capacity as a student.

2. Applicants should submit the following documents as required.

(1) Valid ordinary foreign passport.

(2) Highest degree certificate or diploma (original /notarized copy in English or Chinese version). Applicants can submit a pre-graduation certificate issued by their institution. Failing to submit degree certificate before coming to GDUT will have their admission qualifications canceled.

(3) Complete Transcripts from highest degree education institution (original /notarized copy in English or Chinese version).

(4) Personal statement and a brief research plan(800 words).Doctoral degree program applicants need to submit a brief introduction of research experience.

(5) Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors with signatures.

(6) Applicants who have studied in China should provide the Discipline Record from previous school or university.

(7) Supervisor Pre-acceptance Letter (see Appendix 3 for template), if obtained. For qualified applicants without Supervisor Pre-acceptance Letter, would enter into interview and assessment procedure according to related rules of the university.

(8) Physical examination results.The results should be stamped by the hospital and issued within six months prior to the date of submission.

(9) Other supporting documents as required.

3. Chinese Language Requirements

III. Application Procedures

i. Application Method

1. Online Application

Visit https://iec.gdut.edu.cn/, click the "Online Application" and then proceed with the application, or visit https://apply.gdut.edu.cn/ and continue with a guideline. After registration, please complete the "GDUT Application Form for International Students" (see Appendix 4 for Degree Study and Appendix 5 for Language Study) correctly and completely within the application period, and upload the supporting documents and pay the application fee as required.

2. Email Application

Applicants download the “Application Form for International Students” and complete correctly and completely within the application period, then submit needed documents as related program required to admission@gdut.edu.cn and pay the application fee.

NOTES: The application documents provided should be true and valid, otherwise the applicants shall bear all the consequences. Application without application fee payment will not be processed. Application materials will not be returned. The application fee is not refundable.

ii. Comprehensive Evaluation

1. Documents Review

Applicants should submit all required documents accurately and completely before the deadline for evaluation. Otherwise, the application will not be processed.

2. Examination & Interview

Applicants who pass the application document review will be admitted to the interview, and will be informed of the interview arrangement when prepared.

iii. Visa Application

Admitted applicants must bring the Passport, Admission Letter, Visa Application Form (JW202/201), Physical Checkup Record Form as well as Blood Test Record to the local Chinese Embassy/Consulate or other official missions authorized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China to apply for a student visa (X1/X2 visa).

iii. Chinese Training Programs

The duration of Chinese Training Programs could be 1 month, 3 months, 1 semester or 1 year, and it should not exceed 2 years.

V. Study Duration, Degree & Diploma

i. Undergraduate Students

The duration of study for undergraduate programs in GDUT is 4 years (Architecture requires 5 years). The programs are delivered in Chinese and some in English. Bachelor's degree and graduation certificate will be awarded, if students finish all the required courses and pass the thesis defense.

ii. Graduate Students

Master degree programs in GDUT lasts 2-3 years, while doctoral degree programs last 3-4 years. The programs are delivered in Chinese, with parts of them taught in English. A graduation certificate will be awarded to students who have met all graduation requirements. A master degree or doctoral degree will be awarded to students who have met the related requirements of degree conferment.

iii. Chinese Language Students

Study Certificate will be awarded when international students finish all the required courses.

NOTES:

1. Applicants can apply to up to 2 programs per admissions cycle, and application fee will be charged according to the number of programs applied for. Regardless of whether the application is successful or not, the application fee is not refundable.

2. Textbooks and other teaching materials will be charged according to actual costs.

3. Tuition fee for customized programs (eg. Chinese Training Program) will be determined in accordance to the specific courses.

ii. Accommodation

1. On-campus

International students who need to live in campus will be allocated by the university according to their majors. Deposit for on-campus accommodation is RMB 1,500/person, which will be refunded when check-out. Bills of campus WIFI service, beddings, water and electricity are not included. Fees above-mentioned are subject to change.

2. Off-campus

International students who need to dwell off campus must submit application for off-campus dwelling and obtain the consent from the school. Off-campus dwelling international students must sign formal and legal lease contract with the landlord.

3. Other Fees

(1) Insurance

International students must be medically insured throughout their entire planned period of study in China. Premium: RMB 800/12 months, RMB 400/6 months.

(2) Medical Checkup and Visa Fees

Medical checkup and visa or residence permit application fees will be charged according to actual costs by related institutions.

VII. Scholarships for New Degree Students

Applicants with outstanding academic achievements, leadership qualities and special talents, can apply for the Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship. For more detailed scholarship application information, please visit IEC website (https://iec.gdut.edu.cn) to check updated notice.

VIII. Application,Admission & Registration

i. Application Period

1. Degree Study Applicants

Application deadline: 15 July 2024.

2. Chinese Training Program Applicants

Enrollment of international students is all-year-round.

ii. Admission Period

Based on overall evaluation of application documents and interview, IEC will release the admission results by batch.

iii. Registration Period

Registration period for new degree students usually will be in late August and early September. Please check your Admission Notice for specific registration time. Language students may check the Admission Notice for registration arrangement.During registration, the admitted students should bring their ordinary passport (diplomatic passport and service passport will not be accepted), Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202/JW201) and student visa. Original or notarized diploma or transcripts of your previous study period in English or Chinese should also be provided for rechecking during the official registration. Otherwise, the admission will be considered invalid.

IX. Others

i. If the higher authorities issue new policies in the year of 2024, we will make corresponding adjustments and announce any changes in a timely way.

ii. In case of any inconsistency occurs, the Chinese version of notice shall prevail. GDUT reserves the right of final interpretation.
